Driven by our healing mission, we have a responsibility to protect our patients, families, and communities from the health impacts of climate change.  

At times it can feel like the odds are against us. We have experienced four devastating hurricanes in seven weeks. We are wrestling with state-sponsored climate denial as evidenced by the U.S. withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accord and the recent repeal of the Clean Power Plan. And every day, at health care facilities around the world, we witness firsthand the health consequences of our continued reliance on fossil fuels, toxic chemicals, and unhealthy foods.

However, where there is crisis, there is also hope. Moving beyond feeling overwhelmed, we need to express our commitment to an equitable, sustainable future. Health care is one of the most trusted messengers in civil society and it is our obligation to repay that trust by investing in clean power, by accelerating the development of healthy, local food systems, and by leading the development of healthy and resilient communities.
