The purpose of this bill is to reduce the release of mercury into the environment from consumer products, and thereby advance the goals of the Mercury Action Plan adopted in 1998 by the Conference of New England Governors and Eastern Canadian Premiers.  That plan, among other things, calls for the virtual elimination of mercury emissions from consumer products and other anthropogenic sources.
