Health Care Without Harm Europe Releases New Report on BPA and Phthalates in Medical Devices

Health Care Without Harm Europe has released a new report highlighting the risks that phthalates and Bisphenol A (BPA) can pose to human health and the environment, and provides an extensive analysis of safer alternatives available on the market. Medical devices play a critical role in healthcare, but may contain known endocrine disruptors that can leach out into patients during their use, often affecting the most vulnerable groups of the population. In recent years, alternative substances and materials have become available for many of products that contain phthalates and BPA.

The report, calling for the phase-out of endocrine disrupting chemicals from medical devices, was released in Europe as the WHO and the European Member States meet to evaluate progress and identify next steps toward meeting the goals of the Parma Declaration on Environment and Health. By encouraging consumer demand for safer alternatives and highlighting the need for stronger legislation on this topic, Health Care Without Harm Europe is continuing to advocate for health care settings that are safe for patients and the environment.
